ESLEA proposal to FGCS Journal accepted
|
A proposal to publish a special section onfindings from the ESLEA project has been accepted by Future Generation Computer Systems (FGCS), a leading international archival research journal focused on all the aspects of grid and distributed computing.
ESLEA researchers have been invited to submit papers based on one or more of the following topics: • Advanced circuit reservation • Network protocols research, e.g. DCCP and high speed TCP • ATLAS particle physics application • CDF particle physics application • Radio astronomy (e-VLBI) application • High performance computing applications • Integrative Biology e-health application.
The deadline for submission of papers for internal review is 1st June 2007.

Final Announcement made for the ESLEA Conference
|
A total of 35 talks are confirmed for the “Lighting the Blue Touchpaper for UK e-Science” end of ESLEA project conference on 26th – 28th March 2007 – including keynote speeches from Eric Boyd (Internet2), Ed Seidel (Center for Computation & Technology, Louisiana State University) and Cees de Laat (University of Amsterdam).
The conference programme, abstracts of papers and online registration can be found here . The closing date for registration is 16th March 2007. |

ESLEA close of project conference announced
|
ESLEA's close of project conference "Lighting the Blue Touchpaper for UK e-Science" will take place at the prestigious George Hotel, Edinburgh on 26-28 March 2007.
Abstracts are invited on the topics relevant to the conference objectives. Please submit your abstract in MS Word, pdf or plain text format to Colin Greenwood (coling@nesc.ac.uk). The abstract should contain title, authors, affiliations, summary and indication of whether you are submitting for presentation or poster.
The deadline for submission of abstracts is 16 February 2007. Notification of acceptance will be sent to authors by 26 February 2007. Conference papers will be printed in hard copy and published online in the Proceedings of Science (http://pos.sissa.it/).

SPICE wins the ISC Life Sciences Award at International Supercomputer Conference 2006
|
|
The EPSRC and NSF funded SPICE project paper "SPICE: Simulated Pore Interactive Computing Environment – Using Federated Grids for “Grand Challenge” Biomolecular Simulations" has won the International Supercomputing Conference (ISC) Award 2006 in the Life Sciences category. |

e-VLBI : 0.5 Gbps Trans-Atlantic user data transfer on UKLight

The recent iGRID2005 and SC2005 demonstrations in September and November 2005 enabled the e-VLBI and networking communities to make major steps forward in the development of global e-VLBI. Close collaboration between radio astronomy and networking experts from the US, Japan, the UK, Sweden and the Netherlands resulted in a very successful global experiment. |

SPICE Wins HPC Analytics Challenge
|
SPICE (Simulated Pore Interactive Computing Experiment) project has won the HPC Analytics Challenge at Supercomputing 2005, Seattle.
ESLEA has been working in collaboration with SPICE researchers in order to demonstrate the benefit of using UKLight to carry out computational steering and visualisation of simulations. A video of the winning SPICE demonstration can be viewed here. |

Boston Ltd become new collaborators on ESLEA project
|
|
Boston Ltd, the independent IT hardware vendor, recently formalised its support for the ESLEA project by becoming an industrial partner on the project. Says Colin Greenwood, ESLEA Project Manager, "Previously Boston have provided superb support to ESLEA through the loan of their equipment for demonstrations at events. By becoming formal project partners, we are looking to work much more closely with Boston in future." |

UK’s first optical network gives boost to e-Science at SC05
|

The UK’s first dedicated optical network for research will be put to the test at SuperComputing 05 by a range of e-Science projects in astronomy, particle physics and molecular biology. SC05, the premier international conference on high performance computing, networking and storage, takes place on 12-18 November 2005 in Seattle, Washington State, US. |
